John clicked the mic back into the truck and fished his keys out of his pocket with a jangle. A shooting in downtown Rocky Gap. He shook his head grimly. It seemed that this once peaceful town was becoming more like the big city. This incident only reinforced that fear. He downed the last dregs of his coffee and tossed the empty cup on the plastic grocery bag on the floor of the passenger side as he climbed in.
The engine roared to life with a powerful rattle, and John turned his mind towards the little town he protected. The situation that awaited him in town was unknown, but he steeled himself, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
Things are picking up in Rocky Gap, and John is heading into town to deal with the shooting in this week’s episode 5 of Fire in the Mountains. It’s been interesting crafting the serial this way, but I hope you are all enjoying the story as it progresses. We have a few other projects in the works here at DLS, but, by and large, this story is the focus right now as I get back into the swing of things.
Fire in the Mountains has all the hallmarks of a romantic thriller. A handsome, small town police chief with a tragic past. A young woman who finds herself thrust into the fray. And, as you can tell, a slow build to their relationship with each other. Episode 5 finally brings our two main characters together, and introduces a couple elements that will have an impact on the story.
Episode 5 opens with an almost literal bang as John responds to a shooting on Main Street. As he arrives on the scene, he discovers that Callie has been involved in the incident and is in shock after attacking the shooter. As he investigates the shooting, he uncovers a dark conspiracy that threatens the town and the people he cares about.
As John works to unravel the mystery behind the shooting, Callie struggles to come to terms with what she has witnessed. Her bravery and quick thinking have undoubtedly saved lives, but the trauma of the experience has left her shaken and vulnerable.
Episode 5 promises to be a turning point in their relationship. As they navigate the dangerous waters of the investigation, they must also confront their own fears and vulnerabilities. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their path and find a way to be together?
