Episode 3 Release Day!

Another Friday means another episode of Fire in the Mountain is now live on Kindle Vella.

Fire in the Mountains is an ongoing serial romance about Chief John Smith of Rocky Gap. The first couple episodes introduced us to John and his dark past, but now we get into the more recent story and meet up with Callie.

I have enjoyed writing Callie, getting to know her, who she is, and where she comes from. She’s a very giving person, eager to help, and overall a cheerful girl, despite her own family’s recent tragedy. It doesn’t stop her from getting involved when she sees something wrong.

One thing I greatly enjoy is character development. No one is all good or all bad, and I think a good story should reflect that in both the heroes and the villains. Back when I taught remedial writing, one assignment I gave my student was to re-write a fairy tale. There was a catch (there’s always a catch).

They had to write it from the point of view of the villain who is completely convinced they are the good guy.

It was a difficult assignment for new writers, and I was more interested in getting them to write than on grading them for sticking to the topic, but seeing how excited they were to dig into what makes a character tick was always rewarding.

And that is how I pose it to Boychild as well. Characters are people, for all the good and bad that entails.

Anyhow, join me in welcoming the third episode to Fire In The Mountains. Give it a read, a thumbs up, and maybe even a follow! Tell me what you think of characters and their development!
