It’s Friday, and you know what that means! Another episode of Fire in the Mountains is out for reading.
This one finishes up the prologue before sending John off into the story. This one is also “free” because I see this as an opportunity for a digital “read the first few pages” style of reader. If they like what I’ve written so far, they can “buy” the episodes with their tokens.
Of course, I am still evaluating how I feel about it as an author, and this story is kind of a test to see if I can figure out how this works. I think I’ve got the basics down, but if you see something I missed in the story, please let me know! I can’t fix it if I don’t know about it.
And, as far as Kindle Vella goes, most of it seems to be pretty straightforward regarding the publishing at least. There are a few annoyances, like the inability to include illustrations, but overall it is minor stuff. If readership ends up doing well, then my plan for the stories will work. If, at the end of this experiment, I don’t get a lot of readership, then the time spent on the writing in Vella could be better spent on just writing in general.
And that means there are a lot of moving pieces and more than a little luck needed to figure out how well this is going to go. Add the issues with scheduling to the mix, and this is a recipe for ADHD disaster. Buckle in folks, this is going to be interesting.
